When a Hispanic man stepped into a wireless store Tuesday in Westwood, Massachusetts, apparently in search of a job, Osprey Wireless’s front-counter employee Bryan Carpenter thought nothing of it.
In fact, he went ahead and referred the man, Jose Jimenez, 26, to the store’s owner, Jeff Maron, who brought Jimenez into his office for a one-on-one interview.
“He was as cool as a cucumber,” Maron later recalled to Boston station WBZ regarding the man’s relaxed temperament.
But as he began to speak with Jimenez, he noticed something odd.
“We’re hearing police helicopters outside,” he said. “There’s police coming in from every direction.”
It turned out Jimenez was not the average job applicant.
According to The Boston Globe, only moments earlier Jimenez had been involved in a highway pursuit that began when a state trooper pulled him over but he sped off, driving “up and onto (Interstate) 93 south, and then onto I-95/[Route] 128 north,’” according to State Police spokesman David Procopio.
During a brief stint of time in which the authorities lost track of him, he reportedly abandoned his vehicle near Osprey Wireless and then walked right into the store. Watch the video below to find out what happened next:
“I don’t know what his reply was, but they had their guns drawn, and they struggled a little about, and out they went, and that’s the end of the story.”
Jimenez has since been tossed into jail on a $250,000 bond and charged with “failure to stop for police, operating a motor vehicle after revocation, operating to endanger, and speeding, in addition to assault with a vehicle from last week,” according to WBZ.
The latter charge was why he ran from the police — an outstanding warrant had been issued for his arrest.
Asked by WCVB whether Jimenez got the job at Osprey Wireless, Maron replied, “When he gets out, yeah, there’s a chance of it.”
“No, I’m only kidding,” he added.
That’s good to know.
