This is one protest that is going to get Ford Motor Co. where it hurts the most… their pockets.
According to The Shreveport Times, Ford Motor Co. recently expressed their support for players who kneel during the national anthem. In response to their support, one Louisiana Sheriff, Julian Whittington of Bossier Parish, stated that his office would no longer be purchasing products from their local Ford dealership.
In a letter to the Hixson Automotive Group dealership in Alexandria, Whittington stated:
“recent events surrounding the NFL, its players and their audacity to thumb their collective noses at the American flag, the American military, as well as their obvious disdain for the profession of law enforcement in general, forces me to take a stand.”
Whittington also said that while players have a right to protest, the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office and local taxpayers have “a right to spend our money elsewhere.”
“It is my hope that this letter will cause you to encourage Ford Motor Co. to change their advertising choice and cease to support the NFL with advertising dollars until the NFL leadership demands its players show proper respect for our nation’s colors,” Whittington wrote.
In just 2016 and 2017 alone, the sheriff’s office purchased 29 vehicles from Hixson Ford, spending a total of $747,132.
That is one substantial amount of money if you ask me.
Whittington also stated that he would be sending copies of his letter to 63 other Louisiana cops in hopes to further spread his protest, thus joining in his boycott of the auto maker.
The owner of Hixson Automotive Group told the sheriff that he was not aware of Ford Motor Company’s support for NFL players who protest during the national anthem. He also stated that Ford’s stance concerned him as well, and he would take the sheriff’s letter to Detroit to present it to Ford “in the near future.”
I personally think that this is one awesome and amazing stance that they are taking. Maybe this protest will spread across the nation.
Once again, a perfect case of where politics and business do not mix.
What do you think of this stance that our boys in blue are taking?
