Apparently this was enough to make Kim Jong Un and his regime a bit queasy.
CNN reported that a planned joint drill involving South Korean and American warships off the Korean Peninsula has caused the North Koreans to renew threats to test long-range ballistic missiles near the American territory of Guam.
As well, The New York Post reported that the military drills included “about 40 ships and submarines,” as well as fighter planes and helicopters . Guess which one was leading the show? None other than the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.
In an editorial Friday which was published by Pyongyang’s state-run Korea Central News Agency, Kim Kwang Hak, a researcher at the Institute for American Studies of the DPRK Foreign Ministry, blasted the drills as “senseless military provocations.”
Kim Kwang Hak stated:
“They make us keenly realize once again that we were quite right when we decided to bolster the nuclear deterrence for self-defense in every way, and harden our conviction that we have to keep to this path forever.”
“We have already warned several times that we will take counteractions for self-defense including a salvo of missiles into waters near the U.S. territory of Guam, an advance base for invading the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea), where key U.S. bases are located, as the U.S. has resorted to military actions in sensitive regions, making the waters off the Korean peninsula and in the Pacific restless.”

Another official told CNN that “before we can engage in diplomacy with the Trump administration, we want to send a clear message that (North Korea) has a reliable defensive and offensive capability to counter any aggression from the United States.”
The North Koreans also called President Trump a “war merchant and strangler of peace.” Apparently Kim Jong Un is still harboring some ill will over being referred to as “Little Rock Man,” or “Little Fatty.”
Usually in situations like this North Korea’s news agencies have proven two things that they are good at:
- Producing a ton of hot air and
- Showing just how bad they speak English.
After all, it wasn’t long ago that they claimed the Trump administration’s remarks were a declaration of war and that they would shoot down planes at will.
Honestly, I think it is long past time that we do something about North Korea, especially with his latest revival of the Guam threat. No matter how many sanctions we put on North Korea and Kim Jong Un, he is going to continue to be a nuisance and a danger to world peace in general.
